What Plaud and its alternatives cost over three years

Hardware is the small number. This page works out three-year totals from prices the makers list themselves, dated September 29, 2026, with the arithmetic shown so you can check it.

Why hardware price misleads

A $179 recorder and a $499 pendant look very far apart on a shelf. The gap narrows or reverses once you count the software, and it depends on how much you talk. Plaud's own leadership told TechCrunch that nearly half of device owners upgrade from the basic plan to Pro or Unlimited, and that this is where much of its revenue comes from. If you are a heavy user, plan on the paid tier, not the free one.

The tables below use only prices that the makers list on their own pages as of September 29, 2026. The totals are our arithmetic, shown so you can check it. They exclude tax, shipping, promotions, and any price changes after that date. A monthly price billed annually is multiplied by twelve.

What Plaud's software plans cost

Plaud plans as listed on Plaud's site, September 29, 2026
Plan Listed price Yearly total (our arithmetic) Transcription minutes
StarterFree$0300 per month
Pro$8.33 per month, billed annually$99.961,200 per month
Unlimited$19.99 per month, billed annually$239.88Unlimited, capped at 24 hours per user per day

Plaud says every device includes the 300 free minutes, so the Starter plan costs nothing beyond the hardware. 300 minutes is five hours of transcription a month. A person with several hour-long meetings a week will pass that, which is the point where the Pro plan becomes relevant.

Three-year cost, worked out

Pocket Pro is $19.99 per month billed yearly, listed as $239.88 per year on Pocket's page. Legend's $1,497 total is the figure Legend Memory publishes on its facts page.

How to read the totals

Free tiers are real, but they have limits. Pocket's free plan gives unlimited transcription at standard accuracy, saves summaries for 30 days, and limits Ask Pocket to two messages a day. Plaud's free tier caps at 300 minutes. Omi lists a free plan with no subscription required. If you only need occasional capture, the free row is your number.

Paid tiers unlock the features people actually rely on. Pocket's Pro plan adds permanent summary storage, higher accuracy, speaker names and audio downloads. Plaud's paid plans add minutes. Read what the paid tier includes before assuming you can live on the free one.

Legend is the most expensive row, and it says so. Legend Memory states the three-year total itself and describes the price as higher than most alternatives. What the membership includes, per its facts page: live transcription, daily summaries, auto-generated to-dos, unlimited AI processing with no minute meters, an annual hardware upgrade and priority support. If none of those matter to you, a recorder is the cheaper answer. If the always-on, no-audio design is what you need, Legend is priced as a bundle.

Prices move. Pocket's page showed a sale price against a higher crossed-out price. Omi's page showed a sale price against a normal price. Plaud's plan prices differ by currency. Treat every number here as a snapshot and confirm at checkout.

Three example buyers

The occasional recorder. Someone who captures two or three conversations a week, mostly short, will stay under 300 minutes a month. For that person the free rows are the honest numbers: $129 for Omi, $139 for Pocket, $179 for a NotePin S. The difference between them is design and habit, not running cost.

The daily professional. Someone with several hours of meetings a day passes 300 minutes in a couple of days. That person should price the Pro or Unlimited plan from the start. On a NotePin S the three-year total lands between about $479 and about $899, which puts a heavy Plaud user closer to Legend's $1,497 than the sticker prices suggest, though still well below it.

The person who wants no audio archive. For this buyer the comparison is not on price at all, because the recorders keep audio by design. Legend is the only option in this group that states it never creates an audio file. The cost of that choice is the $1,497 three-year figure and the loss of playback.

Questions to ask before you pay

  • How many hours of conversation do I capture in a normal month? Multiply by 60 and compare with 300.
  • Do I need the audio to persist beyond 30 days?
  • Will I still be using this in year three, when a subscription has run for two renewals?
  • Is there a cancellation path, and what happens to my data when I cancel?

That last question is not academic. When a wearable company is acquired, plans change. Limitless stopped selling its Pendant on the day Limitless announced the deal, and moved existing customers to a free plan for a limited support window. The Limitless statement is quoted in the sources below.
